Last year, they abseiled down a 50m building. This year, supporters of a Jewish charity have been asked to put their fears aside once again – and walk across hot coals.

As part of Seed’s “Power of Belief” campaign on May 19 and 20, fundraisers will be walking barefoot across 1500 degree-heat rocks.

Seed CEO Rabbi Malcolm Herman told the JC that coal-walking was “all about the power of belief - belief in ourselves and belief in our own ability to overcome challenges. We felt this was particularly relevant given the current situation.”

Seed focuses its work on Jewish family education, catering for thousands of families every year through their early years’ programme and other activities in schools and synagogues. They also run parenting sessions and programmes specifically for women and young people.

Rabbi Herman urged the charity’s supporters: “We need you to do the coal-walk to raise vital funds for Seed, so we can continue to give our families the power of belief in themselves and, above all, the power of belief in Am Yisrael.

“As an organisation, we teach parents to raise children with genuine self-belief and an authentic appreciation of our heritage.”

The charity was founded over 40 years ago by Rabbi Joey Grunfeld and now has centres in Edgware, Borehamwood and Prestwich.
